About me
Bethany Grace Howe, Ph.D., works in strategic communications for the Oregon Department of Human Services where she works with front line staff to ensure AI development serves marginalized communities. She also leads Pride & Praxis, an advisory LLC focusing on LGBTQ communications outreach, including consultancy for media on transgender issues. She's consulted for top outlets like CNN, Politico, Vox, The New York Times, and USA Today, among others. Volunteering, she continues to work with community groups supporting survivors of the 2020 Oregon Wildfires.
Prior to her work as a consultant, her 2019 Media Studies doctoral work at the University of Oregon focused on how transgender identity is affected by interpersonal and media-based microaggressions. These efforts produced six articles in peer-reviewed and academic journals.
In her spare time, she’s also a stand-up comedienne, as well the proud parent of Nola, an ninth-grade advocate for LGBTQ+ people and her dad.
